The smartphone launch season usually falls in the autumn, but today Google has unexpectedly early news. At the beginning of August, the company announced that Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro will not only be released this autumn, but will also feature the very first system-on-a-chip developed by Google — the Tensor chip. The exact dimensions of the flagships are still being kept secret. Pixel 6 will run at 90 Hz, and Pixel 6 Pro — 12 Hz. They say the Pro model will be more similar in size to the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra.
The senior model will have a screen curved at the edges, the junior one will be ultra-thin. According to a post on the Google blog, the camera sensors and lenses have been improved and are “now too big to fit into a traditional square.” Therefore, the three cameras are now arranged along a bar across the back cover. Google also moved the selfie camera from the upper left corner to the middle of the display.
The exact colors of the smartphones are still unknown. It is assumed that these will be black, pastel green, or pastel peach.
The updated camera shoots even better
More importantly, Google updated the cameras themselves. It is still unknown how many MP each of the three cameras will have. A representative said that the main camera lets in 1.5 times more light than Google Pixel 5. Both models are equipped with a wide-angle and ultra-wide-angle lens, and the Pro gets an additional telephoto lens with 4x optical zoom.
Google promises improved photo processing thanks to the new Tensor. The processor will process images and video to produce sharper and well-exposed images of moving objects. The company was also able to apply HDRNet to video to ease difficult situations, such as shooting in the sun.

The chip is called Tensor, and they say Samsung took part in its creation. It may become Apple’s biggest competitor. It was described as “a future leader in the market.” Osterloh showed the new “Live Translate captions” feature.
