These are super-cheap and very high-quality items (clothing, footwear, electronics, and more) that can only be found on Amazon. The company simply takes the most successful products on its site, copies them, and sells them 30-50% cheaper, because it can afford to. And for buyers – it’s a joy: even more good products at a super-low price.
For Americans, Amazon is synonymous with online shopping. If they want to buy something online – they get it here. That’s why the platform is able to keep the lowest prices on the internet, and even provide free fast delivery of goods across the USA for almost all purchases. But how do you order from Amazon to Russia? Let’s figure it out!
Direct shipping from Amazon
Amazon itself does not provide direct shipping of goods to other countries. For this, it has separate divisions (Amazon.in in India, Amazon.co.uk in Britain, and so on). But third-party sellers operating on the platform can ship goods anywhere. Many of them offer this service to increase sales. So direct shipping from Amazon is quite possible.
But don’t rush to celebrate. There are several pitfalls here:
The shipping company is chosen by the specific seller, not by you.
The delivery speed is not very high, usually 2-4 weeks.
The shipping cost, since the company sends a single item to Russia, is not the lowest.
Each item from the cart is shipped separately (if you buy them from different sellers), which means shipping for each one is also paid separately.
When shipping toys and inexpensive clothing, the cost of delivery from Amazon may exceed the cost of the item itself. Even toys weighing 150 grams are delivered for at least $35-$45 (depending on the seller’s location). And the point of ordering several items at the same time with this kind of shipping is completely lost; there is no additional benefit in it.
Another example: Timberland boots weighing 4 pounds (1,8 kg). It would seem not to be such a heavy item. How much does shipping from Amazon to Russia cost? If directly (the seller ships via UPS) – at least $43.47. That is more than half the price of the item itself! That is almost three times more expensive than via Prostobox. However, there are some advantages too. For example, since recently Amazon has made it easier to search for products only from those sellers who provide international shipping. The second option is to check before buying a product on Amazon that on the right side of its description page it says that it has "shipping to select countries outside the US". There, at the top right, you can also click on the address and select Russia in the list of countries to make sure that the product can be shipped there. Then the text will say "this item ships to Russian Federation".
But if you want savings and speed, direct shipping from Amazon to Russia by sellers is, of course, not an option. You overpay heavily, and even if the seller ships your item the very next day, in Russia you will have to wait several weeks for it, because this is usually not a priority destination.
At the same time, within the US shipping is almost always completely free. For all orders totaling $25 or more, for some cheaper items (selectively), and in any case if you have a Prime subscription. And delivery is carried out within 24 hours.
